Landmark

Spileo tis Fokias

In the wider area of Kanakia, the so-called Cave of the Seal is also known. It is a small cave, consisting of two elongated spaces. Due to its small size, the Cave of the Seal could have been used, over time, only as an occasional shepherds'/pastoralists' shelter and possibly fishermens'. It comprises a set of 5 small and 2 larger caves on a remote promontory in southwestern Salamis. The geological formations combined with the wild and inaccessible landscape above the inhospitable rocky coast create an awe-inspiring landscape for the visitor. The main cave is quite deep and its walls are a mixture of red iron-metallic rock and a dark shimmering black.... It is probably the most interesting of the 13 caves of Salamina, after the famous cave of Euripides in Peristeria. This point of interest is coastal and rural. Suitable season to visit: All-year-round. It is not accessible through public transport. It has no fee or ticket. Visitable hours: Open. Source of photographic material: google.com
