The Tomb of the Salaminomachians (fighters of Salamina) is located on the northern coast of Kynosoura, in front of the sea area where the historic naval battle of Salamis took place in 480 BC. The opponents in the naval battle were the fleets of the united forces of the Greeks with 370 ships, of which half were Athenian, and Persian (Herodotus mentions 1207 ships). The location where the naval battle took place, in the straits of Salamis, was chosen by Themistocles. A position that favored the faster, smaller and more agile Greek ships. At the end of the naval battle, the mighty Persian fleet had been destroyed and the Greeks had repelled the Persian threat. This is how the city and its culture was saved. The Tomb, a tribute to memory, is a circular stone pile about twenty meters high and has been made of porolits and lapis.
